Sam Baird Opticians provides eye examinations, contact lens assessments, domiciliary visits and emergency appointments for sore, red eyes. We also specialise in prescribing coloured lenses for Dyslexia and Visual Stress.
A sight test is not just about checking to see if you need glasses or contact lenses, although that is the main reason people come to the optician.
A sight test is a check on the health of the eyes and can detect many common eye conditions, which if found and treated early can prevent potential sight loss.
A sight test can also spot other health conditions like high blood pressure & diabetes at an early stage.
Most people should have an eye test every two years, although if you have a family history of glaucoma, or are diabetic you will need your eyes checked more frequently.
An eye test at Sam Baird Opticians usually costs £25 or it is free if you qualify for an NHS sight test.
Children’s Eye Care
Children are never too young to have an eye test. They do not need to be able to read or speak as we have special tests to help us examine even the youngest of children.
Most children have excellent eyesight and do not need glasses, but the earlier problems are picked up, the better the outcome.
At Sam Baird Opticians we have built a reputation over many years for providing expert free eye care for kids. We stock a huge range of free frames, including many suitable for babies. You will also find frames from Centrostyle, Tomato Glasses and Erin’s World.
Feel free to come in and have a look!
All our practices and staff are child friendly – we even have a very popular toy room in our Dundonald practice!
If you are unable to get to any of our practices we can come to you instead. Our opticians will perform domiciliary eye tests in your home using special equipment. Contact us for more information.
We have our own award winning treatment which removes demodex blepharitis, the mite which causes many sticky lashes and uncomfortable eyes.
Our Clean Eye treatment is unique and successful and based on Sam’s own Tea Tree formula. This treatment works especially well with the long term sufferer.

A member of the International Institute of Colorimetry, we provide assessments and solutions from suppliers such as Cerium, Chromagen and our own laboratories.
We are recommended by Crossbows Educational Suppliers for dyslexia.
As well as using an intuitive colorimeter, we tailor our assessments for each individual.
